Peonies are some of my favorite flowers. I planted these a few years ago and they never disappoint. I don’t mind the wait until late spring to see them in bloom because when they flaunt their paper like silky petals and extravagantly fragrant blooms they just steal the show. My only regret is that they don’t last longer. I’m told that some species live for over 100 years. Imagine that! So Beautiful!
“Once lively peonies now wind-weary, and ragged at the edges, hang their heavy crowns; rain on their backs, one final act, before detaching from the stem and falling down.” ― Kristen Henderson, Of My Maiden Smoking
Anyone who’s ever gazed out at a beautiful sunset or a flowering mountain range can feel in awe at their own nothingness. We are compelled to stand there and look, listen, breathe and perhaps take a picture for the memory. I have no specific goals with these photos except that I loved taking them and hope that you enjoy them as much as I did.
