Another beloved landmark and cultural icon in NYC is the Brooklyn Bridge.  It spans the East River and connects Brooklyn and Manhattan. The world’s first steel suspension bride, the masterminds behind it calls it “The greatest engineering work of the ages …..” and I totally agree. I tried to take this 1.3 mile walk across the river one day with my mom who was visiting and quickly realized that what should have taken about twenty minutes took us an hour to reach midway because we kept stopping to avoid cyclists and to see all the attractions on the bridge. Midway between these massive towers the view is so incredible.  Governor’s Island, the Statue of Liberty, and New York Harbor are to the south. North is the Manhattan Bridge and the midtown Manhattan skyline, including the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. Least to say we never made it across this day because the heat was on and I have still not conquered my fear of heights but I am confident that I will return and make it across one of these days!
